I don't really know where to begin with this post today. My heart goes out to the family and friends of the people of Newtown, CT. No amount of words can heal this type of hurt. I mean really, what can you say to someone who has just had their loved ones ripped from them with no type of warning. Even with a warning, it still hurts.
When I first heard the news of this tragedy, I knew it was going to be a hot topic in the news so I choose to read about it a few hours later. I knew this type of life changing event could be down right depressing if it was continually poured into my consciousness. But how could I not be aware of this nonsense? I finally read about it around 3pm even though my coworkers were keeping up on the latest developments.
I decided to catch the last word on it for the day on the evening news. Even then I didn't watch it for too long. I just couldn't imagine what those parents must have been going through knowing they would see their children again. Even the ones who survived through it will have this event imprinted on their memory.
My spiritual teacher, Bishop Dr. Barbara King, just said the other day that a person's body can be physically in front of you but their mind can be somewhere else.
We may never know what was on the shooter's mind in this tragedy. Please pray for peace on Earth because we surely do need it.
Here is the Prayer of Protection (Adapted from James Dillet Freeman) that you can use on a daily basis:
The Light of God surrounds us.
The Love of God enfolds us.
The Power of God protects us.
The Presence of God watches over us.
Wherever I am, God is.
Wherever you are, God is.
May God be with you!
